Memory Care

Memory care is a form of residential long-term care that provides intensive, specialized 24-hour care for seniors living with Alzheimer’s disease and related forms of dementia. Alzheimer’s disease is a type of dementia.

Memory care can include assistance with all activities of daily living such as incontinence care and toileting, mobility issues, medication management, personal care and hygiene, laundry and housekeeping, and cooking and serving of meals. The staff at memory care facilities are specially trained to deal with the unique issues that often arise as a result of dementia or Alzheimer's. Facility staff check in with residents frequently and provide extra structure and support to help them navigate their day. Because people with dementia are prone to wander memory care facilities may have some or all of the following in place such as alarmed doors, elevators that require a code, and enclosed outdoor spaces to keep residents on site. Some memory care facilities also specialize in caring for residents with dementia that are displaying signs of aggressive behaviors such as biting, pushing, swearing, and yelling. Residents in memory care facilities can engage in discussions, brain-stimulating games, and daily physical activity like walking or dancing. All programs in a memory care facility are designed to maintain the resident’s abilities and to encourage the use of their current skills in an encouraging and empowering way at any stage of dementia. Memory care facilities are designed to provide a safe, structured environment with set routines to lower stress and to promote a sense of safety, calm, and familiarity for people living with Alzheimer's or dementia that helps residents remain relaxed and feel at home. We can prepare for you a personalized list of qualified beautiful facilities in the desired area of choice that have also been personally visited by us. Board & Care Homes (RCFE)

Board & Care Homes also known as Residential Care Facility for the Elderly (RCFE), adult family homes, and personal care homes offer personalized 24-hour care services to small groups of adults. Board & Care homes offer a smaller, more home-like family setting for seniors.

Typically, board & care homes can look like a regular residential family home, but in the inside of the home there can be many accommodations set in place for seniors that are being cared for. Board & Care homes can include assistance with all activities of daily living such as incontinence care and toileting, mobility issues, medication management, personal care and hygiene, laundry and housekeeping, and cooking and serving of meals. These homes can accommodate residents with different levels of care from minimal to max care. Board & Care homes can also accommodate residents living with Alzheimer’s and dementia, but these residents cannot have signs of aggressive behaviors such as biting, pushing, and combative behavior, as well as any wandering behaviors. Although many board & care homes have some kind of an alert system when exit doors are opened they are still not as secure as Memory Care facilities when it comes to a resident having a wandering behavior, thus why it is not advised to place a loved one with wandering behavior at a small board & care setting to avoid a resident living with Alzheimer’s or dementia from leaving the premises and being at risk of getting lost or potentially being in harms way. Board & Care homes offer care and services to around 10 seniors or less at a time, which can help create a more personal, home-style living environment. Some families prefer a larger setting like a large Memory Care or Assisted Living community that can accommodate 30+ seniors at a time, but it is all personal preference.Board & Care homes also provide shared and private rooms for residents. Family can choose to have their loved one in their own private room or instead family would rather like their loved one to have a roommate to share the room with. A board & care home is a great choice for families that would love their loved one in a smaller home-style personalized setting that provides 24-hour care for different levels of care, as well as a lot of personal one on one care between staff and your loved one.If a smaller home-style setting seems like the perfect place for your loved one to receive care and supervision, please do not hesitate to get in contact with us. We can prepare for you a personalized list of qualified beautiful homes in the desired area of choice that have also been personally visited by us. When ready we can also arrange a tour schedule for you based on your availability.
